Lee Carsley's England side are through to the semi-finals of the European Under-21 Championships in Slovakia, the defending champions defeating Spain on Saturday evening with an excellent all-round performance.
Having beaten Spain in the 2023 final, Carsley engineered another triumph against highly-rated opponents, captain James McAtee and Harvey Elliott scoring twice in the opening 15 minutes.
A goal back just before half-time, from the penalty spot, made for some nerves but it was largely England who looked the more likely to add to their tally and some excellent chances were missed before a spot-kick of their own in stoppage time was converted by Elliot Anderson to seal an impressive win against the nation that currently provides the yardstick by which other European countries are measuring themselves.
Carsley's side now meet Holland in the semi-finals on Wednesday evening and the manager promised afterwards that 'we'll definitely be attacking them again.'
