Starting with the positives Barnsley did manage to secure only their fifth clean sheet in 29 League One matches this season but failed to score for only the seventh time (two of which have come in the last three matches) and have now followed four straight wins with a four game winless run (D1 L3)
This was Barnsley’s first league goal-less draw of 2024-2025 and indeed first blank in 37 league matches since 16th March 2024 against Cheltenham.
It dropped the Reds to 10th in the league, their lowest position heading into February in the third tier since 2016 when they sat 12th.
The result continues the abysmal home form – the two victories they started 2025 with are their only ones in their last eight games in front of their own supporters and only three sides have won less than their four in total in 2024-2025 – two of which currently occupy the bottom two places in the division.
It was their sixth home league draw of the season, only Blackpool (8) have more.
The Reds only have eight home league games left this season and will need to win five of them to at least equal last season’s home win tally - they have only won five of their last 22 home league games.
This was Barnsley’s eighth league match to be 0-0 at half time this season and they have now gone on to win only one.
Barnsley have now failed to score in seven league games this season, already three more than in the entirety of 2023-2024, four of those have come at home.
Darrell Clarke made only two substitutions in the game, his lowest amount in 15 games since making only one against Cambridge on the 16th November.
Barnsley and Burton have now met 15 times, all since 2014 with this the fourth 0-0 in that time.
Barnsley have kept a clean sheet in over half of the meetings (8)
This did end a run of three successive wins for the Reds against the Brewers however extended an unbeaten run to four.
The Reds have lost only one of the eight Oakwell meetings and have now kept four successive clean sheets against Burton at home (Won two 2-0 and drawn two 0-0)
Indeed Burton have only ever netted in two of their eight visits, earning four points with those goals.
Barnsley had 68% ball possession, their most in any game this season and most since the 29th March 2024 against Cambridge when they had 72% (but again failed to score in a 2-0 defeat)
The Reds ten shots on target is also a season high and most in 12months since the 10th February 2024 against Leyton Orient
