According to various news reports, Hibs are eyeing a summer move for Legia Warsaw striker Migouel Alfarela.
Apparently the Hibees tried to sign the player on loan in January, but he chose a switch to Greek side Kallithea instead.
The 27-year-old joined Legia from SC Bastia of France last summer, in a reported £800,000 transfer, but he only managed 1 goal in 13 appearances and moved to Greece in January in a bid to kick-start his career, and it worked, he scored 5 goals in 10 starts.
Reports in Poland claim Hibs will have to pay £1m+ to land the player, who himself revealed that a move to Easter Road was a possibility in the past.
The French hitman said:
"I had several offers to go on loan in January. Angers were interested, along with Hibs from Scotland and Universitatea Craiova from Romania.
"But I had already decided to join Kallithea. From the very beginning, I had a good feeling about the owners and that was decisive in my choice. I have really enjoyed my football here in Greece.
"I still have two years on my contract with Legia. My goal is to give my all for Kallithea and then come back stronger to Warsaw. The club has invested a lot in me and I will do everything to repay the trust."
Alfarela has previously played for Le Harve II, Annecy and Paris FC in his homeland.
HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW:
An exciting looking possible signing for the Hibees.
Hibs boss David Gray will most likely need to bolster his strike force this summer, and this could be a statement signing.
The figures talked about would break Hibs transfer record and his wages high, but the club should have some good funds and wages to play with.
Dwight Gayle is looking likely to follow through his desire to retire.
Dylan Vente wants to leave Easter Road, but will command a good fee, after a stellar season back home in Holland, on loan with PEC Zwolle.
Elie Youan is also likely to leave, and is another who the Hibees should get a good fee for, after interest from England and abroad in January, with bids in excess of £1m recieved.
Add to the mix that Martin Boyle, likely the club's top earner, is also out-of-contract, you are looking at, in the case of Vente, Youan and Boyle, three of the highest paid players at the club.
Of course, Hibs have the option of triggering an extra year in Boyle's contract, that they included when he returned form Saudi Arabia, but that would be on his current wage, and the club are probably looking to renegotiate his deal, to get his wages down a bit.
Hibs also have Swansea striker Mykola Kuharevich on loan, and will be paying his wage, or part of, so when his loan spell is up, it's a further wage off the bill.
However there would still be plenty in the kitty to make a move for Alfarela, even if Boyle re-signs, if the others all leave.
