England squads named for summer tournaments

As they both look to defend European titles this summer, Sarina Wiegman and Lee Carsley have been facing the media after naming their England squads for upcoming tournaments.

Just days after defeat by world champions Spain, England Women boss Wiegman chose the party that will head to Switzerland next month looking to repeat their feats of 2022.

With Mary Earps, Fran Kirby and Millie Bright all making themselves unavailable for selection, Wiegman insisted that the atmosphere in the England camp was positive after naming a 23-player squad that includes Chelsea star Lauren James as she recovers from a hamstring injury.

Carsley's Men's Under 21's head to Slovakia shortly, for group stage matches against Czech Republic, Germany and Slovenia, and the England head coach, who recently signed an extension to his contract, believes that his players will be able to handle the expectation that comes with being defending champions.

Striker Liam Delap is not part of the squad after a move to Chelsea that makes it likely he will play in the Club World Cup this summer but Carsley is hopeful that Jobe Bellingham will feature amidst interest from another USA-bound club in the shape of Borussia Dortmund.
