Liverpool’s push for a Champions League place took a massive hit yesterday as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium.
Danny Welbeck was the hero for the Seagulls, scoring a header in the first half and a VAR-checked tap-in shortly after the interval to condemn the Reds to their 10th league defeat of the season.
Although Milos Kerkez had equalised for Liverpool following a Lewis Dunk error, Arne Slot’s side looked flat for much of the contest.
The result leaves Liverpool in fifth place, one point behind Aston Villa having played a game more.
Slot admitted his disappointment after the match, citing an early injury to Hugo Ekitike as a major blow to his tactical plans.
