Van Gaal chooses Rensing
Bayern Munich manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Michael Rensing will be his first-choice goalkeeper this season.
The 25-year-old has made 52 starts for the Bundesliga side but lost his place to Hans-Jorg Butt in the final two months of last season following a string of poor displays.
However, van Gaal seems willing to choose the younger man again, saying: "I've seen Hans-Jorg Butt and Michael Rensing in action for the past four weeks and I've made a decision based on how they performed during those four weeks.
"Michael might not have had his best moment in the cup match against Neckarelz, but I won't judge him on one single moment. I put all my faith in him to prove his worth this season."
Bayern had hoped to sign Manuel Neuer this summer but eventually failed to land the Schalke goalkeeper.
