Canaries snap up Hughes

Norwich City have completed the signing of Stephen Hughes after the midfielder left Motherwell.

The midfielder arrives at Carrow Road on a free transfer after he left Scottish Premier League side at the end of last season.

The 26-year-old joins Michael Theoklitos, Michael Nelson, Matt Gill and Owain Tudur-Jones as Bryan Gunn's fifth signing of the summer.

"We're delighted Stephen has chosen to join Norwich City, he had a number of options open to him and rightly spoke to his family and friends before making his decision," Gunn told Norwich's official website.

"We faced stiff competition from clubs in the Championship, Scottish Premier League and also the Bundesliga," he added.

Hughes graduated through the academy at Rangers and made 89 first team appearances for the Old Firm giants.

He has since had spells with Leicester City, for whom he made 100 appearances, and Motherwell.
