Cardiff close to signings

Cardiff City are close to signing a new defender following the departure of Roger Johnson to Birmingham City, as well as offering a trial to another.

Bluebirds chairman Peter Ridsdale confirmed that his club have had a bid accepted for a centre-half, earmarked as a priority for manager Dave Jones, who lost Darren Purse as well as Johnson.

Cardiff received a cash injection of £5million for Johnson and they look set to part with some of it immediately. However, plans to sign Motherwell's Paul Quinn have been put on hold.

"Our priority right now is a centre-half and we have had an offer accepted," chairman Ridsdale told Wales Online.

"We will be talking to the player today. There has been discussion about Paul Quinn, but our first job is to bring in a central defender."

Also heading for the Welsh capital could be Maros Klimpl, a Slovakian international defender who has been offered an initial one-week trial.

Klimpl was on loan at Motherwell last season and featured in Slovakia's 5-2 defeat at the hands of Wales last term.

Leaving Cardiff, however, is Warren Feeney who is set to seal a move to former club Leeds United.
