Rovers agree deal with Givet

Blackburn Rovers have agreed a deal to sign Gael Givet on a permanent basis following a loan spell at Ewood Park.

Rovers chairman John Williams has revealed that a £3.5million fee has been agreed and that the full-back is poised to sign a permanent contract.

Givet made 16 appearances for the Lancashire club after arriving on loan from France in January.

"There were one or two things we had to work on," said Williams.

"We are close as the terms have been agreed. But it is never done until all the signatures are on the papers."

Meanwhile, Williams has conceded the first-team squad at Ewood Park will have to be smaller than the one which started last season.

"The wage bill in the year just finished was too high in relation to our turnover," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"There has to be some adjustment. It does need to come down as this is a business and we do not have a bottomless pit of money.

"There is always a need to look at what the general market is doing.

"I think we will be okay. We are not in bad shape. There are a number of people who are leaving and are not essential to replace."
