Bees to miss out on Blackett

Brentford manager Andy Scott has admitted defeat in his hopes of signing Peterborough defender Shane Blackett.

Scott has made Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson aware of his interest in bringing Blackett to Griffin Park, but has been priced out of making a move.

A move for the former Dagenham centre-half or left-back appears to be out of the question as Scott refuses to pay a fee for him.

The Bees manager told the Ealing Gazette: "I've spoken to Shane's agent, not just about Shane but also other players on his books, before the season finished.

"But Peterborough want a fee for him and I'm not in a position to pay one. With the budget in mind, I've got more pressing positions to fill."

He added: "Darren Ferguson knows I'm interested in Shane, but that's as far as it goes unless the situation changes."

Scott is also to miss out on Northampton's Jason Crowe due to wage demands and competition from other clubs.

However, one player who could be on his way is free agent Ben Herd, after the former Shrewsbury right-back approached the club in hope of securing a deal.

Scott said: "Ben is a friend of David Hunt's who contacted me after he was released by Shrewsbury and asked if I'd be interested in him.

"He's a free agent and a decent player and I asked him to keep me informed about what he's doing."
