Willian: Corinthians manager unsure over winger's future amid Fulham rumours

Corinthians manager Vitor Pereira has confessed he does not know what the future holds for veteran winger Willian amid reports that Fulham are interested in signing the Brazilian.

Now 34, Willian returned to Brazil in August 2021 just 12 months into a three-year contract with Arsenal. While his arrival was initially celebrated by Corinthians fans, the mood has soured as the winger has managed just one goal in 44 games for the club.

Willian was left out of a recent Copa Libertadores clash against Flamengo, having complained about a mysterious injury, but his omission has only fuelled fire of a possible return to the Premier League with Fulham which has been touted by the Brazilian media.

When asked whether there was any truth to the rumour, Pereira told a press conference: “Honestly, I can't answer that. Whether he is happy or not, I don't know, that's one for his family. I don't know, he's been injured.

"With this situation, I cannot answer or guarantee anything."

Willian, who managed 36 goals in 258 Premier League games across his time with Chelsea and Arsenal, is said to have asked for clarity about his future from Corinthians, who are reported to be prepared to offload the winger if they are eliminated from the Copa Libertadores.

Already 2-0 down from the first leg, Corinthians travel to Flamengo in the early hours of Wednesday morning in search of a much-needed victory.

Should they fall to another defeat, Corinthians could listen to offers for Willian, although whether Fulham will lodge a bid remains to be seen.
