West Ham fans can now add a fourth round FA Cup exit to West Brom on top of their relegation worries, with the Hammers' 2019/20 season in danger of completely falling apart.
Conor Townsend's ninth-minute strike ensured Slaven Bilic tasted victory upon his return to the London Stadium on Saturday, consigning West Ham to another early cup exit.
Not only was their performance well below par, but it also continued a tragic record for the Irons in the FA Cup.
They were beaten 2-0 by a Will Grigg inspired Wigan in 2017/18, while Wimbledon convincingly knocked them out 4-2 in 2018/19.
So poor was the first half performance by West Ham that Hammers boss David Moyes reacted by making three substitutions at half time. After the game, Moyes made it clear he would have made further changes if the rules permitted him to.
“I think I could have probably made a couple more if I was allowed,” Moyes said. “I’m desperately trying to get people in who we think can do something for the team and that’s not easy."
One of the players Moyes is thought to have identified is Slavia Prague’s Tomas Soucek. Football London claim the Stratford side are exploring the possibility of signing the Czech Republic midfielder ahead of Friday's deadline.
