Update on Wes Morgan's Leicester City Future as Contract Winds Down

Leicester captain Wes Morgan is likely to be handed a one-year contract extension, with his current deal set to expire next month.

The 36-year-old is a Foxes legend, having played a key role in the most successful period of the club's history since signing from Nottingham Forest back in 2012.

Morgan skippered Leicester to Premier League glory during the 2015/2016 season, earning a place in the PFA Team of the Year in the process, while he also led his side out in the Champions League quarter finals the following season.

The Jamaica international played a less prominent role this campaign however, with Jonny Evans and Caglar Soyuncu's impressive partnership restricting him to just 14 appearances in all competitions.

With his deal set to expire on 30 June, Morgan was expected to depart the club at the end of the season but the Athletic have reported that Brendan Rodgers will in fact be offering him a one-year contract extension.

Rodgers is understood to value the way that the defender commands respect in the dressing room, with Leicester's young squad looking up to him as a leader.

The Foxes also look set to keep Christian Fuchs at the King Power Stadium - another player whose contract is up next month.

The Austrian has previously expressed an interest in moving to the United States where his family is based but Rodgers is hoping to convince the left-back to extend his stay in the east Midlands as he has impressed on each of his 14 appearances this campaign. The club could require defensive backup next season as well with Ben Chilwell's long term future remaining uncertain.

Both Morgan, Fuchs and the rest of the Leicester squad returned to training in small groups last weeks with the Premier League set to return next month.
