Thomas Tuchel hails 'complete' Chelsea performance in win over Liverpool

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel has hailed the ‘complete’ performance that his side produced to consign Liverpool to a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat at Anfield, meanwhile sending the Blues back into the top four.

Mason Mount scored the only goal of the game shortly before half-time and it was a contest that Chelsea managed well, creating more chances than the hosts over the course of 90 minutes.

"I am very, very happy with the performance. It was clear we needed a complete performance in all aspects of the game. We did this, we were very brave with the ball and never lost intensity with the ball,” Tuchel is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"We were always aggressive and very brave. This was the key. It was a top team performance and a deserved win. Both teams started in a high level of speed and intensity. We knew that.

“We told the team we don't want to give too much information. When you arrive in a match like this you cannot overthink it. We managed all situations very, very good. Very, very encouraging."

Tuchel is still unbeaten since taking over in late January. His impact has been transformative and the team has taken 18 points from a possible 24 on offer in the Premier League. They have also continued to progress in the FA Cup and lead on aggregate at the halfway stage of their Champions League last 16 tie against La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid.

It is a far cry from the form in the final weeks of predecessor Frank Lampard’s reign. In the build up to his sacking, Chelsea had lost five of eight league games and had slipped dangerously into a mid-table position, which risked missing out on qualifying for the Champions League.

Now, Chelsea sit fourth in the standings ahead of Everton and West Ham, albeit having played a game more than both, but crucially closing the gap to Manchester United and Leicester ahead after each dropped more points this week.
