Ryan Sessegnon reveals Ivan Perisic advice

Tottenham wing-back Ryan Sessegnon has opened up on the advice he has received from summer signing Ivan Perisic.

The Croatian arrived on a free transfer after playing an integral role in Antonio Conte's title success at Inter in 2021.

Perisic had to contend with a place on the substitutes bench for Spurs' 4-1 victory over Southampton on the opening weekend of the season, although Sessegnon admits that the 33-year-old has been keen to hand out pointers.

"He won the title with the gaffer at Inter Milan so he knows him very well," said the 22-year-old. "In any type of little situation, he can help me with how he wants his wing backs to play.

"One against ones, getting in the box - any information is going to help."

Sessegnon opened Tottenham's account for the season last weekend when he met Dejan Kulusevski's cross at the back post. And the Englishman admits that the taxing nature of the wing-back role under Conte ensures there's always room to improve.

"It’s probably one of the hardest positions in the team," added Sessegnon. "He wants you to contribute going forward but obviously defensively as well so you have to have that engine to go up and down.

"That’s one of my strong suits but it can always be improved. Nobody is superhuman but you can try to be as close as possible to it.

"You can feel when your opponents are tired. You keep making those runs and that can make the difference as well."
