Raphael Varane discussing getting out of 'comfort zone' at Man Utd

Raphael Varane has opened up on his first few months as a Manchester United player, revealing that he has enjoyed getting out of his "comfort zone" by playing in the Premier League.

Varane arrived at Old Trafford after a decade at Real Madrid, during which time he made close to 250 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos.

Since making the switch the defender has firmly established himself as a key member of the United squad, featuring in each of his side's subsequent games.

Speaking to L'Equipe before France's Nations League semi-final against Belgium, Varane explained how he has been enjoying his time with the club so far.

"I am very happy with this beginning of the adventure. The Premier League is a Championship renowned for its intensity," he said.

"There is a different atmosphere, a different mentality in general in relation to football. It's a different approach and a different experience for me.

"I enjoy playing, getting out of my comfort zone, looking for new benchmarks in relation to my teammates. It's another way of defending, it's super interesting for me."

Although Varane has settled well for the most part, United have been far from convincing in recent weeks. In the lead up to the international break they won just one of their previous four matches - and that came courtesy of a last-minute clincher from Cristiano Ronaldo against Villarreal in the Champions League.

Prior to that they were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham and also slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

This has piled the pressure on perennially under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the Norwegian has insisted that he is the right man to get the best out of United's expensively-assembled squad.

Despite their recent struggles, United are fourth in the Premier League table, just two points off leaders Chelsea after seven games.
