Phil Foden Makes Pep Guardiola Admission After Increase in Man City Playing Time

Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden insists that he could not ask for a better manager than Pep Guardiola.

The 19-year-old has started to take on a more prominent role at the Etihad Stadium this season, demonstrating his talents during a number of outstanding displays in cup competitions, as well as in the Champions League.

Foden is also featuring more in the Premier League, but has still made just four starts in all competitions this season. But he has insisted, in an interview with Sky Sports, that Guardiola is the best manager to help in development, citing his ability to improve weaknesses as a key ingredient of his success.

"You honestly can't ask for a better manager in football. He's so demanding, even me at such a young age, he wants a lot from me, that's what I love," Foden said.

"He always wants to push me further. He makes you a better player, the best you can be. I'm thankful for that. He is a great guy, very down to earth. You can have just a normal conversation with him. If he sees a weakness in someone's game, he will correct it straight away."

Foden continued by addressing Guardiola's attention to detail, revealing the slightest of tactical tweaks often lead to a change in fortunes.

"To be honest, I don't know how he sees so many things, he changes things a little bit and it makes such a big difference. That's why he is such a great coach.

"It's a pleasure working with him every day.The little details make a big difference. So say we've got Crystal Palace, he will have watched so many games, all the defensive actions, all the attacking actions, so he can make it clear what we have to do in the game."

For all of his success, Guardiola has faced criticism for his reluctance to play Foden - along with a number of other young players - more often.

But the Spaniard has previously said that 'everything is going to happen naturally with this type of talent," suggesting his belief that Foden is destined for the top, regardless of how many games he plays right now.
