Sheffield Wednesday have secured the services of academy product Matt Penney for another year. The 22-year-old, who made his debut for the Owls in 2018, has signed a 12-month contract to extend his stay at Hillsborough.

The Chesterfield-born player has spent the 2019-20 season on loan at German 2nd division side St Pauli under the guidance of ex-Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay. Penney is comfortable playing at left-back and left-midfield and will be looking to gain a regular place in the Owls squad in 2020-21 following his experience in Germany.
