Owls charged with financial misconduct

Sheffield Wednesday have today been charged with financial misconduct, as per an official statement on the football league website.
 
The charges relate to the sale of Wednesday's Hillsborough stadium and how this sale was included within the 2017-18 financial accounts. The EFL state that they have reviewed a number of documents submitted by the club in relation to this accounting period and the sale of the stadium and have issued the charges in respect of their rules on Profit and Sustainability.
 
Sheffield Wednesday football club have issued a short statement on their official website, www.swfc.co.uk to confirm that they note the charges and will be vigorously defending their position against them. Both the EFL and the Owls state that they will not be making any further comment at this stage.
 
Breaches of the EFL's P&S regulations can result in fines and points deductions.
