Murder Inquiry Launched After Matlock's Jordan Sinnott Dies on Night Out

A murder enquiry has been launched after Matlock Town midfielder Jordan Sinnott passed away on Saturday after being attacked on a night out.

The former Huddersfield Town academy graduate was found unconscious with a fractured skull during the early hours of Saturday morning. He was taken to hospital but later died as a result of his injuries.

Nottinghamshire Police took to their official website to confirm that a murder enquiry was underway following a number of large-scale disturbances in the local area of Retford during the hours leading up to Sinnott's injury.

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and questioned over his involvement in the incident, and he remains in police custody.

“Mr Sinnott’s death is a sad and significant development in this investigation. Our thoughts remain with Mr Sinnott’s friends and family, who our specialist officers are continuing to support at this incredibly difficult time," Detective Inspector Justine Wilson said.

“Our investigative team’s focus will remain on identifying those responsible and bringing them to justice."

Sinnott had only joined Matlock on loan from Alfreton during the summer, but wasted little time in making a real impact. His finest performance came in his last appearance for the club - a 5-1 win over Basford United, in which Sinnott netted the first hat-trick of his career.

The Englishman began his career with Huddersfield, joining the club's academy and eventually becoming captain of the Under-18s side.

He managed five first-team appearances for the Terriers, but after several spells away on loan, Sinnot was released from his contract in February 2015.

His next move was a spell with Altrincham, with whom he had already spent time on loan. Managed by his father Lee, Sinnott quickly impressed and soon earned himself a move to Halifax Town, and a switch to Chesterfield followed soon after.

He moved to Alfreton in September 2018, before opting to join Matlock the following year, helping the team on their battle for safety in the Northern Premier League.
