Man Utd, Finally, Make Their 8,007th 'Breakthrough in Talks' - Bruno Fernandes Daily

Bruno Fernandes daily.

It's been dragging on for a while now. I know, it's difficult. Difficult to care, difficult to sift through the endless stream of cack you see on your Twitter timeline about a transfer that could quite possibly never happen. Difficult to stomach anything related to Manchester United at the moment, and difficult because everything is terrible again.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's out there saying "it's not the time to talk about transfers" - even though it's January, one of only two periods in the calendar year when transfers are possible - and he's also suggesting being 1-0 down to your traditional biggest rivals until the last minute is a sign of progress.

Oh, and United's two best players are injured too.

Bruno Fernandes daily, then, I guess, is needed. Because Manchester United fans need something to cling on to, something to hope for, some suggestion that there might be some player with an actual creative bone in his body about to rock up to Old Trafford.

We'll try the best we can.

Firstly, Ole on Transfers

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Get the boring stuff out of the way first, then. It's Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's latest quotes on incoming signings from his morning press conference.

"Now is not the time to speak about recruitment. We’re always looking to improve the squad and the club, but now is not the time."

He was never going to confirm anything anyway. On we go.

Of course they're going to say this. United and Sporting each have figures they want to achieve from this transfer and until that figure is met (it probably won't be for a while yet, sorry lads), Bruno ain't travelling anywhere but on the Sporting team bus.

"There is a lot of talk about him leaving," Emanuel Ferro told Portuguese newspaper A Bola (via Mail Online). "I believe that outside people feel this more than us. We don't feel it.

"We don't feel Bruno's thinking about leaving. He is competitive and involved."

The hope can only remain that the poor guy doesn't get injured. That'll be a real dealbreaker.

But Wait. Suggestions...of a Breakthrough?

We've heard the "Manchester United make breakthrough in Bruno Fernandes talks" several times over the last 25 years. However, we've also heard it today, from sources in both Portugal and the UK.

A Bola do the perfectly predictable thing of saying that a deal is "perfectly possible", while the Mirror have on Tuesday afternoon run that United are prepared to finally up their offer to a total of £55m including add-ons. Goncalo Lopes reported on Plataforma (?) earlier in the day that both clubs were prepared to meet in the middle too. Stand-off over?

David McDonnell's bit suggests the up front fee sits at a precise £46.78m, and it even suggests the deal could be done by the end of the week, which, yes, is before the January transfer deadline. Hurrah, we might finally seen an end to this saga.

The reality is, talks have been ongoing for days and all it requires is one of the teams to break the impasse. The Mirror have jumped in first, so keep your eyes open.
