Away draw in Carabao Cup

Sheffield Wednesday face a tricky trip to Rotherham United if they progress to the second round of the League Cup.
The draw was held on Tuesday evening after the majority of the 1st round matches were completed but the Owls yet to contest their tie. Wednesday were due to face Bury at Hillsborough on Tuesday but the match was postponed by the EFL due to Bury's ongoing financial issues which have resulted in all of their league and cup ties so far this season being put on hold.

A decision on the immediate future of the Shakers is expected within the next 10 days. A potential buyer is said to have made an offer and if this can be resolved to the satisfaction of the EFL then the clash with the Owls could be rescheduled. However, if a suitable arrangement is not reached by 23rd August then Bury could face expulsion.

Rotherham enjoyed a 4-0 win over Shrewsbury in the first round of the competition. The 2nd round ties are scheduled to take place during the week commencing 26th August but with few dates available to fit in the first round game between Wednesday or Bury before then it is likely that regardless of who progresses from that tie, the 2nd round match is likely to be held at a later date.
