Jose Mourinho Expected to Let Tottenham Youngster Leave This Summer

Tottenham do not expect youth team player Kazaiah Sterling to have the quality required for the senior side and forward is expected to leave the club in the summer.

Sterling joined Tottenham's academy in 2015 but despite making more than 60 appearances for sides at various age ranges, the striker is yet to start for the senior team and has failed to impress in each of his three loan spells over the past 18 months. He had previously made substitute appearances under Mauricio Pochettino in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Since January 2019, the forward has been loaned out to League One's Sunderland and Doncaster before underwhelming at Leyton Orient in the lowest tier of professional football in England in the second half of this season.

According to Football Insider, José Mourinho has no intention of including Sterling in his plans for the future, and the club are open to offers for the 21-year-old to move when he returns from Orient.

Spurs were hoping the forward would gain valuable experience from playing competitive senior football but this has not been the case. At Sunderland and Doncaster, Sterling made a combined 12 appearances, only once featuring in a starting lineup. However, in limited minutes the striker did manage to score for each club.

Since arriving at Leyton Orient on transfer deadline day in January, Sterling hasn't even been included in a matchday squad.

Tottenham have been plagued by injuries since the turn of the year, with their frontline taking a particular hit. Both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min were out indefinitely but due to the suspension of sport in the United Kingdom - in reaction to the outbreak of coronavirus - Spurs' star striker expects to be fit when professional football returns, whenever that may be.

In the absence of his star players, Mourinho has shown a reluctance to turn to 18-year-old striker Troy Parrott, so his viewpoint on Sterling, a player who has received a fraction of the hype his younger colleague has been given, is unsurprising.
