James Maddison 'Wants' Manchester United Move But Leicester Expect Huge Fee

Manchester United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Leicester star James Maddison, as reports claim the player 'wants' to link up with the Old Trafford club this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are in the midst of a squad rebuild, and added some creativity to their ranks last month in the form of Sporting CP playmaker Bruno Fernandes.

With Paul Pogba among the expected summer departures, however, they are thought to be on the lookout for further firepower when the window reopens, with the likes of Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho named as targets.

Jack Grealish

One rumour that has never quite gone away surrounds Leicester talisman Maddison, who is reported to have been in the sights of United since before his move to the Midlands 18 months ago.

It's taken a bit of a back seat recently, but the Manchester Evening News have brought it back to the forefront with a report claiming that he 'wants' a move to materialise at the end of the season.

They cite sources close to the player who quote him as saying he 'would have been at United years ago' if it was his choice, and note that the Old Trafford hierarchy are currently deciding between a move for either Maddison or Grealish - with Fernandes' arrival not thought to have affected plans in the slightest.

It's believed, however, that Maddison's impressive recent form, coupled with the precedent set by United's signing of Harry Maguire, means any potential deal is likely to command a fee greater than the near-£80m they paid for his signature.

The 23-year-old has scored nine goals and assisted a further three in 30 appearances this season and would represent an impressive addition were United to recruit him. The size of the fee involved, however, does mean it's unlikely that both Maddison and Sancho could be recruited in the same window - especially since there is a degree of positional overlap between the two.
