Hibs sign Swindon Town striker Harry McKirdy

Hibs have finally announced the signing of Swindon Town striker Harry McKirdy.

The 25-year-old has joined the Hibees for an undisclosed fee and has signed a 3-year-deal at Easter Road.

In what was the most drawn out transfer we've seen at Hibs in a long-time, the club got it over the line just before the deadline.

The deal seemed to be off after the two clubs apparently walked away from the deal about 7pm, but Ben Kensell and Ian Gordon managed to get the deal back on track and landed the exciting striker.

McKirdy hit 23 goals in 38 games last season for the League Two outfit and will hope to bring that sucess to Edinburgh.

The former Aston Villa kid has floated around the lower leagues in England and has a decent scoring record with the likes of Carlisle and Port Vale, but he really hit the heights at Swindon.

Hibs boss Lee Johnson said:

“We’re excited to bring Harry to Hibernian FC, and we’re delighted that he chose to come here after interest from several different clubs.

“Everyone can see how well he’s been performing over the last 12-months or so and he’s a player that’s coming into the prime years of his career.

“He’s someone that shows his pitch personality and has a real desire to keep on improving. Alongside this, he also gives us extra options in the forward areas being able to play centrally and out wide. We can’t wait to get started with him.”

UPDATE:

There seems to be a slight twist in the tail, it looks like Swindon Town have failed to send the paperwork at their end on time and The Hibees await international clearance from FIFA.

Hibs-Mad View:

This looks a very exciting signing for the club.

We have also splashed the cash once again, with reports suggesting we paid between £350-£400,000.

However, the fact Swindon have failed at their end puts a sting in the story, we may have to wait to see him in Green.
