Hibs sign Rangers winger Glenn Middleton on loan

Last updated : 13 August 2019 By Steve Forbes

Hibs have today completed the signing of Rangers winger Glenn Middleton.

The 19-year-old has signed a season long loan deal, after turning down a move to NAC Breda in the Netherlands.

Middleton becomes the Hibees 8th summer signing and will go straight in to the squad for this weekend's clash with Morton in the Betfred Cup.

Speaking to the official website, Middleton said:

“I’m really pleased to have got everything sorted and I just can’t wait to get started.

“I know I’ll need to work hard to make a good impression and that Paul has a lot of good players to choose from, but I’d love to be involved on Saturday against Greenock Morton.”

Hibs boss Paul Heckingbottom added:

“I think our supporters will enjoy watching Glenn play.

“He’s direct, quick and will add different qualities to the squad.

“From our conversations he’s clearly desperate to play for this club.”

This could be a really exciting signing for the club. Middleton is very fast and direct and will bring to the team what we missed when Martin Boyle broke down with another bad injury.

He has played 10 games in the Europa League and made nearly 30 appearances for Rangers last season.

Middleton already knows a number of Hibs players, having played with Ryan Porteous, Oli Shaw and Fraser Murray at youth level for Scotland.

Veteran defender Steven Whittaker was also an ex team mate at Norwich City, so hopefully Middleton settles really quickly.

The only down side is some of the pathetic comments towards the laddie on social media from some so-called Hibs fans and also some Rangers fans - all boiling down to their dislike for each-other.

It's really quite shameful to see.
