Hibs sign midfielder Stephen McGinn

Last updated : 16 September 2020 By Steve Forbes

Hibs have today announced the signing of midfielder Stephen McGinn on a free.

The 31-year-old was a free agent after leaving St Mirren during the summer and had been acting as part of Hibs boss Jack Ross' back-room team, as well as training with the squad.

McGinn becomes the third brother to play for the club, with Paul currently part of the squad, and John, now a club legend, joined English giants Aston Villa in a £2.8m deal two years ago.

He has previously played for the likes of Watford, Sheffield United and St Mirren.

Speaking to the official website, the former Scotland U21 international said:

“It means a lot to me to have signed for Hibernian and it goes without saying that no-one needs to explain the size of the club to me.

“John and Paul have thrived here and it’s a privilege to get the chance to play my part as well.”

Hibs boss Jack Ross added:

“For me, Stephen adds a lot to the group and the environment at HTC.

“You can never have enough good professionals with leadership qualities and we’re fortunate, as I’ve said repeatedly, to have a great core of those at Hibernian."

This has been a possibility for a while, McGinn seems to have settled in well at Easter Road, and is well thought of by Hibs boss Jack Ross.

It's a good solid signing for the Hibees, he has plenty experience and will add to a good squad.

However, let's hope this isn't the last signing in the centre of that midfield.

We really need a marquee signing in there.
