Hibs midfielder Fraser Murray signs for Kilmarnock

Last updated : 17 June 2021 By Steve Forbes

Hibs midfielder Fraser Murray has tonight left the Hibees and signed for Championship club Kilmarnock.

The 22-year-old has signed for the Rugby Park outfit on a two-year-deal with Hibs inserting clauses in the deal, that could benefit the club in the future.

Murray broke through from Hibs academy back in 2016, and made 30 appearances in all competitions, scoring 4 goals.

Fraser spent last season on loan with Dunfermline Athletic, playing 29 times and scoring 6 goals, and it's thought the Pars were keen on re-signing him, but he has instead chosen Ayrshire.

He is the second Hibs player to sign for Kilmarnock this summer, following the free transfer of midfielder Stephen McGinn a few weeks back.

Speaking to the official club website, Hibs Sporting Director Graeme Mathie said:

“Fraser has been part of Hibernian for a number of years now and is an Academy graduate who has progressed to making 30 appearances in the First Team.

"He’s a very popular member of the squad who is well liked by everyone at HTC. The opportunity for him to join Kilmarnock and – most importantly – to have the opportunity to play regular First Team football was one we all agreed was right for him at this stage in his career, with Hibernian retaining an interest in his progression."

Mixed feelings with this one, Fraser is a talented player, and is still a young man.

He made 30 appearances, but most of them from the bench, with little game time.

It would have been good to see how he would have progressed with a lengthy run in the first team.

You can also see it from the players point of view, he is 22 and probably feels like it is time to try something different.

Hibernian-Mad would like to wish Fraser well in the future - Smash it kid!
