Harry Winks wants to leave Tottenham on loan

Tottenham Hotspur outcast Harry Winks is ready to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window in search of first-team football.

The 25-year-old came on as a last-minute substitute in the 1-0 victory over Wolves and then played for an hour in the 3-0 hammering at the hands of Crystal Palace. But other than those brief minutes, he has not featured in the Premier League, instead being utilised in the Europa Conference League.

Nuno Espirito Santo has preferred to start the returning Oliver Skipp in his place, after the midfielder impressed during his season-long loan at Norwich City last year, and Winks' restricted game time has left him with a decision to make.

And The Times reports that Winks is ready to make a loan move away from north London in January, hoping to find a home where he can play more regularly and subsequently force his way back into the England setup.

Gareth Southgate is an admirer of the Spurs star and had made him a key figure in his midfield, but he lost his place in the England squad due to a lack of game time at club level, starting only nine league matches last season.

Winks was then handed the chance to leave in the summer, attracting interest from Everton, Aston Villa and Brighton. But having rejected those offers, he's now prepared to give up on his hopes of breaking into Spurs' starting lineup for the rest of this season.

He would also accept a loan move abroad in the short term if it helps him gain some first-team football and stake a claim for a place in the Tottenham side for next season.

Winks featured regularly for Spurs between 2017 and 2020, but his career has stalled and teammate Skipp has now surpassed him in the pecking order.
