The 2021/22 Premier League campaign is fast approaching and that means we are gearing up for another enthralling season of FPL.
By this point you will have no doubt begun to think about your Fantasy Premier League team. However, if you have not completed a first draft yet we have good news for you: 90min is here to help.
Over the coming days we will be publishing buying guides for all four positions. We kick off with goalkeepers. Probably the least exciting position in FPL, but an important one nonetheless.
Bargains - £4.5m and under
1. Daniel Bachmann (£4.5m)
Last season Watford had the best defensive record of the three promoted sides that are joining the Premier League.
One of the reasons for that was the fine form of Daniel Bachmann. The stopper averaged just 0.57 goals conceded per 90 minutes - the best figures in the whole of the Championship.
He should continue to keep Ben Foster out of the side this season, allowing him to focus on his burgeoning YouTube career.
2. Vicente Guaita (£4.5m)
Vicente Guaita was the highest scoring of our bargain goalkeepers last season, racking up 124 points.
He is more affordable than ever too. After two seasons at £5m he starts this campaign at just £4.5m. Crystal Palace's new look defence of Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen does not look too bad either.
3. Robert Sanchez (£4.5m)
Robert Sanchez's emergence as Brighton's number one goalkeeper was one of the stories of last season.
Thankfully, despite his impressive performances and points tally, he remains a bargain at £4.5m. Ben White's departure is a bit of a worry for Brighton, but their defence still looks strong on paper.
Mid-tier - £5.0m to £5.5m
4. Emiliano Martinez (£5.5m)
No goalkeeper managed more FPL points than Emiliano Martinez's 186 last season.
Finishing the campaign with 15 clean sheets, one saved penalty and an extremely impressive 27 bonus points, Martinez made Arsenal regret not giving him the number one shirt last summer.
He will set you back £0.5m more this season but with Villa looking strong at the back, he might be worth the investment.
5. Illan Meslier (£5m)
If you did not have Illan Meslier in your FPL team last season, you likely did not do very well.
Costing just £4.5m, he ended up being the third highest scoring goalkeeper in the game. His displays have pushed his starting price up by £0.5m this term, which is still affordable enough to justify a purchase.
6. Kasper Schmeichel (£5m)
Kasper Schmeichel has long been a guaranteed starter for Leicester, not missing a single minute of Premier League action over the past three seasons.
During his FPL career he has consistently hovered around the 120 point mark each campaign and there is little sign that will change this time around.
7. Jose Sa (£5m)
If you fancy opting for a (sort of) wildcard, Jose Sa could be your man. Brought in from Olympiacos to replace Rui Patricio - an FPL favourite who has joined Roma - he will be hoping to start strongly.
Wolves' defensive record was not the best last season but after strengthening in the transfer window they are likely to improve.
Expensive tier - £6m and above
8. Ederson (£6m)
2020/21 Premier League Golden Glove winner Ederson is, unsurprisingly, one of the most expensive goalkeepers in the game.
During his time at Manchester City the Brazilian's points return has never dipped below 133. Of course, by signing Ederson you will have to live with the fear of Pep Guardiola sticking Scott Carson in goal for a laugh.
9. Edouard Mendy (£6m)
Plucked from obscurity to save Chelsea fans from another season of Kepa Arrizabalaga blunders, Edouard Mendy ended the 2020/21 campaign as a Champions League winner.
He seems set to keep the gloves this term and will be hoping to improve on his inaugural FPL points return of 140.
10. Alisson (£6m)
Alisson managed more Premier League goals than Andriy Yarmolenko, Theo Walcott and Dele Alli combined last season, rising high to nod home a vital injury time winner against West Brom.
Although similar heroics are unlikely this time out, he could still be worth pushing the boat out for in FPL. Despite missing a significant chunk of the season he still racked up 140 points and has registered tallies of 122 and 176 in previous seasons.
