David de Gea enjoying resurgence of form at Man Utd

David de Gea has thanked fans for standing by him after his recent return to form saw him voted Manchester United's player of the month for November.

After an unconvincing few seasons, full of individual errors and speculation that he could be replaced by Dean Henderson, De Gea has been one of United's top performers this season, preventing the team's defensive worries from being worse than they were under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

It's the first time De Gea has won the award since February 2018, and speaking to the club's official website, the Spaniard admitted he is feeling back to his best.

"I’m here just to help the team," he said. "I try to make saves in the important moments. This is why I’m here, to help the team. At the moment, I’m doing well and helping the team. This is my job.

"To be honest, I’ve been feeling very good since the beginning of the season; very confident and very strong in mind. So, yeah, I’m really happy with the award, of course. Thanks to the fans. Of course, it’s been a difficult few weeks in the club but the last results have been great for us. So let’s keep pushing and keep trying our best."

He continued: "It’s been quite a long time [since he won the award]. Maybe I feel I’ve been very good in some months. But I’m very happy with my form and how I’m playing and how I’m training. Yes, of course, it’s very good when the fans vote for you and decide you are the Player of the Month.

"It’s always good, especially when the fans are behind the players. Like I say, I always try my best for the team and for the club. I try to help from the back, giving my 100% in every training session and in every game. Thanks to the fans who voted for me."

De Gea has firmly reclaimed his starting spot at Old Trafford, so much so that Henderson is keen to force a move away.

Sources have confirmed to 90min that United are ready to let Henderson leave on a temporary basis, but the Englishman would prefer a permanent departure after 18 months of limited appearances.
