Crystal Palace 'Still Interested' in Nathan Ferguson Despite Deadline Day Move Collapsing

Crystal Palace are said to maintain an interest in West Brom defender Nathan Ferguson despite his January move falling through due to injury.

The 19-year-old was heavily reported throughout the window to be on the move to Selhurst Park and got as far as agreeing terms on a switch before undergoing a medical in south London.

It quickly emerged that the defender was suffering from an underlying knee injury, however, prompting Palace to pull the plug at the last minute, and he has since undergone surgery to amend the problem.

But while Palace will not return with the same £10m offer for a player who is out of contract in the summer, the Mail report that they will test the Baggies' resolve with a £4m bid to forego the possibility of a compensation tribunal.

Ferguson's future is shrouded in doubt as he looks increasingly unlikely to extend his terms beyond the end of the season, but they will be due compensation for their role in his development should he depart, and could take Palace all the way for an increased amount should they sign the player before an agreement between the clubs is reached.

Palace are keen to limit their investment in the England Under-21 international and aren't thought to be keen to sign him before it has been determined what they would have to pay.

Ferguson has been a key player for Slaven Bilic's side this season, featuring 21 times right across the back four before injury struck and left him on the sidelines.

He has featured just once in 2020 but is expected to play a key role in the league leaders' bid to return to the Premier League once he gets back on his feet after corrective surgery.
