Christian Fuchs Provides Update on His Leicester City Future as Contract Winds Down

Leicester City defender Christian Fuchs has revealed that he is hoping - and expecting- to remain at the King Power Stadium beyond the end of the current season.

The Austrian left-back has been a key player for the Foxes since his arrival on a free transfer in 2015. The 33-year-old played a vital role in his side's glorious Premier League title victory in the 2015/2016 season, under the stewardship of Claudio Ranieri.

Since Ranieri's departure, the rise of England international Ben Chilwell has seen Fuchs' game time limited, yet the experienced full back seemingly still has a role to play in helping to nurture Brendan Rodgers' youthful squad.

If Chilwell is set to leave for Chelsea - as reports suggest - then it is likely Rodgers will seek to retain the services of the veteran Fuchs for a little while longer and extend his soon to expire contract.

Fuchs himself, in an interview with APA (via Sports Witness) has stated: "If Leicester plays in the European Cup next season, you need a big squad, it's hard to reduce

"And Rodgers has told me he wants to keep me on at all costs and we'll certainly be able to work something out, so I'm relaxed in that respect" added the former Schalke man.

With Leicester flying high in the Premier League this season, it is perhaps no surprise that Fuchs is desperate to remain a part of such an exciting squad, under the leadership of an equally as exciting manager in Rodgers.

In the immediate future however, as for many, Fuchs attention has not solely been on football. With the continued coronavirus pandemic impacting not only football, Fuchs rightly explained that: "In this situation, the only thing that interests me is that my family is doing well."

Whenever it is that the football season does resume, it will be interesting to see whether Fuchs remains a part of the Leicester side that continue to mount European ambitions.
