Bayern Munich interested in signing Chelsea target Matthijs de Ligt

Bayern Munich are interested in striking a deal to sign Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, 90min can confirm.

The Dutchman has entered the final two years of his contract and has hit a wall in negotiations over an extension, with a move away from the Allianz Stadium now on the cards.

Chelsea are very keen on De Ligt, with manager Thomas Tuchel imploring owner Todd Boehly to try get a deal done, but sources have confirmed to 90min that they will have to fend off competition from Bayern for his signature.

The Bundesliga champions have just three centre-backs on the books following the summer departure of Niklas Sule to Borussia Dortmund, and club officials have identified De Ligt as an ideal replacement for the German.

Chelsea find themselves in a similar boat this summer as they are looking to fill the void left by the exits of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, and talks remain on with Juve over a possible move for De Ligt.

Neither Bayern nor Chelsea are willing to meet Juventus' €100m asking price, however, prompting both clubs to try and drive down the Bianconeri's demands.

The Premier League side have been exploring possible swap deals and have received a positive reception to the idea of sending winger Christian Pulisic to Turin in exchange, with Timo Werner's name also discussed.

De Ligt is aware of interest from both sides and is understood to be happy to join either Bayern or Chelsea this summer.
